Window Well Installation and Drainage That Actually Empties
A window well is a small reservoir beside your foundation. If it cannot drain, it eventually drains through the window.
Common warning signs
- Standing water visible in the well after rain
- Leaves and soil filled to the level of the window sill
- Rot or rust on the window frame from below
Common causes
- Well depth set too shallow relative to the sill
- Drain stone compacted or replaced with soil
- Rusted or separated well liners
- Surface runoff funnelling straight into the well
